The History of Burge’s Hickory Smoked Turkeys and Hams Alden Burge began smoking turkeys in his backyard smokehouse in Lewisville, Arkansas for friends and family after moving there from Shreveport in 1953. He worked in the local oil fields and soon his co-workers wanted him to smoke turkeys for them too. On Friday nights at his home in Lewisville, he began making barbeque chickens, baked beans and coleslaw and selling it before ball games.
Burge’s is famous for their Smoked Turkey Salad. Simple in appearance but brilliant in taste. Regardless of what you are eating pick up a tub of this before you walk out the door. The rest of the menu consist of a variety of in house smoked meats and other southern favorites.
